From February 18, 2026, through February 18, 2027, Ohio will honor the life, literature, and legacy of Toni Morrison—Lorain native and the first Black woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Pickerington Public Library will join the statewide celebration, beginning with a birthday tribute on February 18. Join us for a screening of the 1998 film Beloved, starring Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover—and enjoy a slice of birthday cake in Morrison’s honor.
Set in 1873 Ohio, Beloved follows Sethe, a mother haunted by the trauma of her enslaved past and the desperate choices she made for freedom. Her home, possessed by a furious spirit, becomes the stage for a story of grief, guilt, and redemption.
The film runs 2 hours and 52 minutes—feel free to drop in and out during the screening.
