Local author Patricia Wynn Brown will discuss her new book "Royal Roots: Reimagining a Life through Humor, a Castle, and the US Navy."
Patricia Wynn Brown is an award-winning writer, humorist, and author of three books, including her latest memoir, "Royal Roots: Reimagining a Life Through Humor, a Castle, and the US Navy". A three-time James Thurber Writing Contest winner and former humor columnist, she is known for engaging presentations that blend humor, reflection, and heartfelt storytelling. She is also a frequent emcee and has appeared on television and NPR.
Set against the booming optimism of post-WWII America, this memoir follows Patricia Wynn Brown—“the Mouthy One” in her turbulent Midwestern family as she navigates the chaos caused by her veteran father’s erratic behavior and long absences, a family secret that culminates in his headline-making death. With humor, candor, and resilience, Brown traces her journey from childhood confusion to adult understanding, guided in part by a life-changing visit to a Welsh castle and surprising revelations from the U.S. Navy. Blending personal history, cultural touchstones of the 1950s–70s, and an honest look at the impact of PTSD on families, she crafts an uplifting story about healing, identity, and piecing a life back together.
