Krista Horrocks of the State Historic Preservation Office—and the Ohio History Connection’s resident cemetery expert— will present a journey of discovery into the language of gravestones. Through the carved symbols of the past, we’ll explore how memorial design reflects evolving beliefs about death and the afterlife.

Krista Horrocks works as Department Manager of SHPO Administration for Ohio’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) at the Ohio History Connection, where she manages a team of administrators, grant managers, GIS coordinators and database managers in support of all program areas for the SHPO. She also serves as the Ohio History Connection's cemetery preservationist, where she works providing research support guidance and presentations on all things Ohio cemetery-related.
