Take a journey across both the High Seas and the Great Lakes, singing together, learning the roles shanties played on the ship, and the cultural seeds which sprouted into this maritime tradition.
Join us for a lively sea shanty singalong celebrating a rich musical tradition with deep roots in African American, English, and Irish cultures. Folksinger, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Ben Traverse brings these timeless work songs to life, blending history, storytelling, and infectious rhythms designed to bring people together—just as they once did aboard ships and in ports around the world. Traverse, known for vibrant exploration of Great Lakes, bluegrass, Celtic, and old-time music, will lead the crowd in spirited sing-alongs while sharing the fascinating origins behind the tunes. Come ready to tap your feet, raise your voice, and enjoy an evening of community and song. All ages welcome!
